Mexican Food in DC: District Taco

The fam and I are on vacation this week in DC, so I thought it would be fun to share a little of our vacation this week vs. the typical posts.

Yesterday, we discovered District Taco.  A mexican restaurant close to our hotel.  Love it.  Fresh ingredients which is so refreshing - no processed food. :)  My mister and I gave it 4 stars out of 5.  For me, it was because you could make the food as spicy as you want, thanks to their salsa bar.  They even had limes so you could add some lime juice (which I did to my burrito bowl).  It was a great change of pace not to see Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi - but to see another brand - an independent and unique brand - Boylan Bottle Co..  Way to go Distrcit Taco - to think out of the box.

My little mister, on the hand just gave it 3 starts.  The reason, he didn't think the meat was spicy enough.  He's not one to be adventurous with condiments.

I'm surprised that District Taco isn't a chain.  They would give Chipolte a run for their money.

Recipe:: Pumpkin Sage Pasta

Doesn't this just look absolutely DIVINE!!
I stumbled upon this recipe via Nat the Fat Rat.  This image is from her website.  I have to admit...I'm really hungry now and I'll be heading to the store to purchase the ingredients...because..HONEY..this is what's for dinner tonight.
It's a perfect fall meal.  I'm going to opt for some grilled chicken and I think I'm going to use corn pasta vs. the whole wheat.  I want to see if I can make this puppy gluten-free. :)
I have to roll...gotta get to the store!

OK...UPDATE!

I made the Pumpkin Sage Pasta with Corn Pasta and added chicken.  I also added a teaspoon on nutmeg and some balsamic.  It was still needing a little something something...but paired with the chicken, it was really good.

Wanna see what mine looked like?

Comfort Food that Warms the Heart

Fall is upon us (even though it doesn't quite feel like that here in the Bay Area) and that means comfort food is on the menu.  I love baked beans.  I love bite size morsels.  These are from Peter Callahan's new book Bite by Bite, 100 Stylish Little Plates You Can Make for Any Party.  I can't wait to make these.
